Rue and the other Euphoria kids definitely aren’t in high school anymore. The trailer for the third season of Sam Levinson’s hit HBO Max series finally arrived on Wednesday (Jan. 14), showing how Zendaya‘s character and former classmates must contend with the harshness of the real world five years after graduation.
The two-minute clip opens with Zendaya saying that, as a young woman selling drugs and hiding from her former dealer, Laurie — who ends up tracking her down in the teaser — life isn’t “exactly what I wished.”
The trailer also provides updates on Hunter Schafer’s Jules, who’s apparently now working as a “sugar baby,” and Jacob Elordi’s Nate and Sydney Sweeney’s Cassie, who are engaged. As the latter shakes her behind in a hypersexual deer costume for a video on social media, Nate says disapprovingly, “I work all day, and my bride-to-be is spread-eagled on the internet.”
Season three of Euphoria will arrive on the streamer on April 12 after more than a four-year wait since last season. The new installment’s logline reads, “A group of childhood friends wrestle with the virtue of faith, the possibility of redemption and the problem of evil.”
The next chapter’s first proper preview arrives a few weeks after Levinson teased what was to come for the show’s beloved ensemble. “Cassie is living in the suburbs with Nate, they’re engaged and she’s very addicted to social media and envious of what appears to be the big lives that all of her high school classmates are living at this point in time,” he said, according to BBC News, adding that Alexa Demi’s Maddy is working in “Hollywood at a talent agency” and Maude Apatow’s Lexi “is an assistant to a show runner played by Sharon Stone.”
Beyond the main cast, musician Dominic Fike will also reprise his guest role from last season in season three. Plus, Spanish superstar and recent Billboard cover star Rosalía will make her Euphoria debut come April.
