Charli XCX is set to star alongside Supergirl’s Milly Alcock in a new horror film from Japanese master Takashi Miike.

The as-yet-untitled slasher movie is set to start filming in Japan next month, as reported by Deadline, and it sees Miike returning to the genre that saw him become a cult sensation, thanks to the likes of Audition and Ichi the Killer.

It will see Charli play Katie, a character who meets two old friends in Kyoto, only to become possessed by a nightmarish, violent spirit. Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead), Kiko Mizuhara (Attack On Titan) and Show Kasamatsu (Tokyo Vice) will co-star.

On Sunday, Charli confirmed her involvement in the project, writing on X: “I am so honored to be working with takashi miike as a producer and an actor, literally a dream come true!!!!”

“We met in 2024 and started coming up with ideas for a project,” she contined. “I cant wait to be immersed in his world ahhh!!!!! xxxx”

The announcement is a continuation of Charli’s increasing involvement in the film industry.

Her satirical mockumentary The Moment, which is situated amid the global hysteria around Brat Summer and its accompanying tour, is hitting UK cinemas on February 20, while Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights, for which Charli has created an original soundtrack, is out on Friday (February 13).

She also has another independent film in cinemas at the moment – Julia Jackman’s period fantasy 100 Nights Of Hero – while other upcoming projects including indie drama Erupcja and satirical thriller Sacrifice.

She will also star opposite Natalie Portman in The Gallerist and she is set to make an appearance in I Want Your Sex with Olivia Wilde.

Charli said last year that she was “currently feeling more inspired by film than by music” after being left “stuck, empty and barren” after her breakthrough album ‘Brat‘.

Elsewhere, she made an appearance with her friend and collaborator Rachel Sennott in a Super Bowl advert for the drinks brand Poppi.
