Slipknot will finally release their long-shelved 2008 album, Look Outside Your Window, as part of this year’s Record Store Day (Saturday, 18 April).
Only 2,300 copies of the 12-inch vinyl have been printed and have been labelled a Record Store Day exclusive. You can find more information about the release here.
Released under the Look Outside Your Window moniker, rather than Slipknot, the LP features contributions from band members Corey Taylor, Jim Root, Shawn “Clown” Crahan, and Sid Wilson.
The material for the album was written and recorded along with the sessions for the American nu-metal outfit’s 2008 release, All Hope Is Gone. However, the emphasis on experimentation and melodic rock stylings—with a Radiohead inspiration—throughout Look Outside Your Window made it a separate body of work compared to the band’s other releases.
With its numerous delays and reputation as a “lost” album, Look Outside Your Window has long been a part of the Slipknot fandom lore.
After years in the vault, the band initially planned to release Look Outside Your Window during their 2019 We Are Not Your Kind album cycle. More delays ensued, and in a 2025 interview, Crahan said the album would finally be released in 2026.

In a statement about the album’s long-awaited release for Record Store Day, the band said, “We knew we were heading down a different creative path, entirely apart from Slipknot, and we followed it eagerly. We called the project Look Outside Your Window as a tribute to this experimental spirit.”
They continued, “Created during a chaotic time in our shared history, the songs were born late at night, in a house on a farm in the middle of nowhere. Peering out through a big picture window, we wondered about what, or who, might be lurking outside.
“That sense of the unknown seeped into the music itself. There were no rules; ideas could come from anywhere: subtle drum loops, bits of organ or abstract guitar noise, even samples of frogs or crickets. Guided by emotion and instinct, we let the sounds themselves point the way.”
Last year, Slipknot sold a majority stake in their catalogue, including publishing and recording royalties, to HarbourView Equity Partners for a reported US$120 million.
“After 25 years of taking on the music business, we find ourselves with a partner that is willing to sign onto continuing what Slipknot started,” Crahan said. “Only they want to go even bigger. Get ready. Hail The Knot.”
The Slipknot deal was at odds with other A-listers in that they were not considered a household name. But as The Music explained, the $120 million figure also drew from the intense loyalty of the band’s Maggots fan base.
Slipknot headlined their titular festival, Knotfest, for the second time in Australia last March. They brought extended set times to Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane, and played a sideshow at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.
