Bad Bunny scrubs his Instagram account immediately after his Super Bowl halftime performance, leaving his 50 million followers wondering what’s next.
Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny seems to be taking a break from social media following his Super Bowl halftime show on Sunday, February 8. Just a few hours after the show, the 31-year-old (whose real name is Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio) removed all the posts and profile photo on his Instagram account. He initially left a link to his Grammy-winning album in his bio, but this has since been removed as well.
Bad Bunny did not disclose to his 52.7 million followers why he made the decision to overhaul the account, but many fans have speculated that the wipe precedes a major upcoming announcement. However, others suspect he might just be taking a break from social media after far-right backlash over his entirely Spanish-language performance.
During his performance at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, CA, Bad Bunny was joined by Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin, as well as cameos on the sidelines from Cardi B, Karol G, and Pedro Pascal. The performance was very unity-focused, displaying a variety of flags from countries across the Americas as Bad Bunny shouted out every American country and territory.
Bad Bunny’s halftime show also featured a real wedding on the football field. The couple, whose names have not been disclosed, initially invited Bad Bunny to attend their wedding. But instead, the superstar invited them to be a part of the halftime show, where they were married live. Bad Bunny served as a witness and even signed the marriage certificate.
While the halftime show itself was largely devoid of politics, Bad Bunny featured a child actor whom viewers mistook for Liam Ramos, the five-year-old boy who was recently released from a detention center in Texas alongside his father. The Ecuadorian pair were detained by ICE agents in January. The child actor, five-year-old Lincoln Fox, was clearly meant to reference Ramos, as well as serving as a representation of a young Benito himself.
