Rapper Lil Tjay has been arrested and charged in connection with the shooting of Migos rapper Offset in South Florida on Monday night. Police say a second person was detained at the scene but has not been charged. Rumors circulated online that Lil Tjay was directly involved in the shooting; his attorney, Dawn M. Florio, has denied these allegations.
The Seminole Police Department issued a statement confirming that Lil Tjay, whose real name is Tione Jayden Merritt, was arrested and “charged in connection with the incident that took place Monday night at a valet area outside of Seminole Hard Rock.” He was booked at Broward County Jail on a disorderly conduct charge, with bail set at $500. He was also charged with a traffic violation, which carries a $2,500 bond.
Offset and Lil Tjay have had a history of issues, stemming from comments Tjay made about Offset during a livestream last year. Tjay claimed that “Offset broke,” and that he had a gambling addiction and owed him money.
On Monday evening, the Migos member was shot near the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida. A spokesperson for the rapper confirmed that Offset was being treated for his injuries and was in stable condition.
“Seminole Police were on site immediately and the situation was contained quickly,” said a police spokesperson. “Two individuals have been detained by police. The investigation is ongoing. The site is secure and there is no threat to the public. Operations continue as normal.”
Offset is best known as one-third of Atlanta-based rap group Migos, alongside childhood friend Quavo and cousin Takeoff, the latter of whom was shot and killed in Houston in 2022. Offset went solo in 2019 and was also married for nearly seven years to superstar rapper Cardi B. The couple has three children together. Offset also has three other children from previous relationships.
