Leeds four piece Bathing Suits have just released their debut EP. Keith Goldhanger suggests we should all go to see this band as soon as we can.
The monster-truck, thrill a second, noisy, chaotic, electronic/guitar band Bathing Suits have at last got their debut 12″ EP available for us all to play at ear splitting volume to annoy the neighbours with. Kill Bathing Suits is now available featuring four exciting songs (previously available as downloads) that some of us have already been playing to death since our paths first crossed alongside new tune Swan Princess.
These five thumping tunes available via Underplay Recordings couldn’t be more representative of the current time for those who enjoy seeking out new acts inside some of the small venues that we currently have scattered across the country. A band that for some of us represent the Punk Rock, DIY sound of the day and are for anyone fortunate to have seen their live shows, arguably the best there is to witness at the current time.
This EP features more heavy electronic beats colliding with ferocious, sporadic guitars, all anchored by a bruising, rumbling bass which acts as a simple backdrop providing a thrilling, high-intensity backing-track for the piercing shrieks of Freyja Blevins.
This is a band that could have arrived at any time during our lives; Crystal Castles come to mind as a first comparison. In old(er) money we’d like to think that if Crass swallowed the techno pill then this is what the results might have sounded like, Atari Teenage Riot with polish but no spit, early PIL but more sinister, Heaven 17’s Fascist Grove Thang but noisier, distorted, faster, messier and as thrilling as anything else you’re likely to hear this decade.
Bathing Suits have a collection of songs that remind us why we fell in love with music in the first place, they make a noise that fueled our early passion that continues to drive us as we spend our lives aiming to discover new artists everyday.
Give this lot a listen and try to see them as soon as you can. You will not be disappointed.

A Plea From Louder Than War
Louder Than War is run by a small but dedicated independent team, and we rely on the small amount of money we generate to keep the site running smoothly. Any money we do get is not lining the pockets of oligarchs or mad-cap billionaires dictating what our journalists are allowed to think and write, or hungry shareholders. We know times are tough, and we want to continue bringing you news on the most interesting releases, the latest gigs and anything else that tickles our fancy. We are not driven by profit, just pure enthusiasm for a scene that each and every one of us is passionate about.
To us, music and culture are eveything, without them, our very souls shrivel and die. We do not charge artists for the exposure we give them and to many, what we do is absolutely vital. Subscribing to one of our paid tiers takes just a minute, and each sign-up makes a huge impact, helping to keep the flame of independent music burning! Please click the button below to help.
