Spotify launches a global campaign for the release of “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” featuring select tracks from the Super Mario Galaxy video games.

To celebrate the Super Mario Bros. franchise’s 40th anniversary, Spotify is launching a global campaign in collaboration with Nintendo, tied to the release of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. As part of this collaboration, select tracks from the Super Mario Galaxy video games will be made available for streaming exclusively on Spotify for a limited time, starting on April 24.

To coincide with the movie’s release this month, Spotify has launched two new playlists:

  • Nintendo Game Music Official Playlist, which features game music from Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2. Through official soundtracks from the games, listeners can relive memories of adventures, characters, and stages, experiencing the world of the games.
  • The Super Mario Bros. Movie Official Playlist, featuring the soundtrack from The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, so fans can enjoy the music that brings the film to life.

Additionally, for Spotify Premium users, beloved star character Luma will appear on the playback bar, aiming to “bring the Super Mario Galaxy to life within the Spotify app.”

As part of the global campaign, billboards in New York and Los Angeles will encourage fans to check out the official playlists.

It’s Mario’s 40th anniversary, but it’s also Spotify’s 20th anniversary, and the company has released lists of the most streamed artists, songs, albums, podcasts, and audiobooks, many for the first time in its history.

Unsurprisingly, the top 5 biggest artists on the list are Taylor Swift, Bad Bunny, Drake, The Weeknd, and Ariana Grande. Bad Bunny has the most streamed album of all time, with his 2022 hit Un Verano Sin Ti. The Weeknd secured the most streamed song of all time with “Blinding Lights.”

Other top songs include Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You,” “Sweater Weather” by The Neighbourhood, “Starboy” by The Weeknd and Daft Punk, and “As It Was” by Harry Styles. Top albums include Starboy by The Weeknd, ÷ (Deluxe) by Ed Sheeran, Sour by Olivia Rodrigo, and After Hours by The Weeknd.
