Lizzo knows that a settlement with her accusers would probably be easier than continuing to fight, but the singer says she is ready to go to court if necessary.

In an interview with Gayle King on CBS Mornings on Monday (May 4), Lizzo explained why she remains firm in her unwillingness to settle the sexual harassment lawsuit filed against her by her former backup dancers. The dancers filed a lawsuit in 2023 with allegations of sexual harassment and toxic workplace conditions, which the singer continues to deny.

Lizzo said she realizes that reaching a settlement would probably be “an easy out,” compared to continuing to fight the case, but she has no plans of backing down. “I’m fighting the case because I know that it’s not true,” she told King. “I cannot wait for it to be dismissed.”

The star added that she has taken the lawsuit very seriously “because of what I mean to people.”

“The truth will come out,” Lizzo said. “That’s why I’m not afraid of it. The truth is less salacious than the headlines.”

According to the dancers’ lawsuit, they accused the singer of pressuring them into touching male performers inappropriately at a strip club in Amsterdam. They also claimed she perpetuated racial discrimination and even fat-shamed the dancers—though the latter claim was dismissed by a judge back in December. The rest of the case against Lizzo remains pending.

“This claim has haunted me since the day it came out,” Lizzo wrote in an Instagram post when the fat-shaming claim was dismissed. “I will be fighting every single claim until the truth is out.”

“There was no evidence that I fired them because they gained weight, because it never happened,” she added at the time. “They weren’t fired for gaining weight; they were fired for taking a private recording of me without my consent and sending it off to ex-employees.”

Meanwhile, Lizzo is preparing to release a new album, Bitch, on June 5.
