This week, Billboard’s New Music Latin playlist — curated by Billboard Latin and Billboard Español editors — features fresh new music including Arcángel’s eight studio album La 8va Maravilla, Codiciado’s heart-wrenching “Todo Pendejo” and Joaquina’s pop ballad “pelinegra,” to name a few.
On his 20-track set, Arcángel not only celebrates his 20th anniversary but also showcases his two-decade evolution that goes from his signature reggaetón and R&B sound to a more experimental side: banda, Jersey club, pop, afro house, merengue, you name it. On a personal level, the Puerto Rican artist—who collaborates with Daddy Yankee, Ricky Martin and Grupo Firme, among others—declares this set his “sober album,” becoming the first set he creates while not being under the influence of alcohol or drugs. “If for 20 years I created music in a not-so-healthy way, making music during very dark times, imagine what I can do now that I’m sober and feeling better personally,” he told Billboard in a recent cover story.
Also on a new career high, Kenia Os delivered “Belladona,” an avant-garde electronic track that’s sophisticated, provocative and witty. According to a press statement, the song, co-written by the Mexican pop star, “follows a femme fatale who asserts control over love and its consequences.”
Also new this week is Manuel Turizo’s “Por Un Pendejo No Se Llora,” a sensual bachata about a woman who’s not loved correctly. Which release this week do you think is best? Give these new releases a spin and vote for your favorite new Latin music release below:
