Sydney pop artist Charley has been experiencing an upward trajectory over the last few years, and she’ll be making the most of it with the announcement of her debut album and accompanying tour dates.
Charley recently took home the Emerging Global Songwriter Award at the Vanda & Young Global Songwriting Competition for her track, Man On The Moon, which features on her forthcoming record, The Chronicles of a Serial Idealist.
In 2023, the world was introduced to Charley upon the release of her 2023 debut EP, TIMEBOMBS, which saw her nominated for the Michael Gudinski Breakthrough Artist award at the ARIA Awards and debut on the ARIA Albums Chart, solidifying her as one of Australia’s most exciting new pop acts.
Before releasing an album, Charley has covered Paramore, played sold-out shows, and opened for artists including Stephen Sanchez, G Flip, Griff, and FLETCHER. Now, she’s using all that momentum to propel her most personal work to date.
Charley’s debut album, The Chronicles of a Serial Idealist, will be released on Friday, 17 April, via EMI Australia—pre-order/pre-save here.

The Chronicles of a Serial Idealist is Charley at her most honest and self-aware. Throughout the record, she explores themes of sexuality, romanticisation, and emotional growth. She reflects on red flags and the tendency to wear rose-tinted glasses as she follows a journey toward self-acceptance.
“This album captures some of the most defining moments of my life so far, and releasing it feels equal parts exhilarating and terrifying,” Charley said. “Where TIMEBOMBS came from, trying to hold things together as they fell apart, this record is about finding hope in the mess – being honest, reflective, and learning to let go.
“These songs circle the same patterns of romanticising and repetition, which is how I landed on the idea of a ‘serial idealist.’ I can’t wait to share it live across Australia.”
The album announcement arrives following the release of singles Cherries and Limerence. Today, Charley unveils the dreamy Serial Idealist, written alongside Harry Charles (Tate McRae, Reneé Rapp, King Princess) and Ned Houston (Sam Fischer), and mixed by Geoff Swan (Chappell Roan, Charli XCX).
“Serial Idealist came together on a writing trip down south, in a house with a studio that opened straight onto a river,” she explained. “When Harry started building the track – dreamy, a little sexy – the song finally clicked.
“It became a reflection on choosing hope over self-protection and falling for people who are wrong for you anyway. That same setting ended up shaping the visual world of the video, which we were lucky to bring to life exactly as imagined.”
