Those purveyors of trashy glam punk, Continental Lovers, are back with a bang as they release two new singles at the same time. And little doubt that both Screwing Your Life Up and Bad Little Go Go Girl have all the wild rock’n’roll spirit, swagger and raging fury of mentors such as the New York Dolls and the Heartbreakers.
Continental Lovers have been flying the flag for trashy glam punk for some time now and clearly loving every minute of it as they continue to tread the boards across Europe as well as gracing various festival stages along the way. It’s now twelve months since they released their self-titled debut album which neatly pulled together all their singles in one finely tuned yet wild and ragged collection of songs. But now, just as we thought it was safe to go out again, comes the release of not one, but two new singles in the form of Screwing Up Your Life and Bad Little Go Go Girl.
Dominated by guitars which rage with a wild uninhibited rock’n’roll spirit, gritty vocals, hard driving rhythms, big melodies and uplifting harmonies, these are both songs which scream like the New York Dolls and explode with the all the fire and fury of the Heartbreakers, both proving to be vital additions to the ever growing and impressive songbook of Continental Lovers.
Lead vocalist and guitarist Joe Maddox explains the background to the songs as follows, “Screwing Your Life up is a riff I borrowed from another song I wrote a couple of years ago that I just couldn’t finish. I wrote a new chorus and bridge and re-wrote the lyrics and here it is. It’s a song about the pull of addiction, which is quite a heavy subject matter for us. I wanted to write something a bit different. Bad Little Go-Go Girl comes from a musical idea Ben had. He came up with the music, and I tweaked the chorus and bridge a bit. Then I wrote some words that I really wanted to get stuck in your head, hence the call and response chorus. It’s a key shift in it towards the end of the song. It’s got a bit of power!”
Alongside Joe, Continental Lovers comprise, Ben Webster on lead guitar and backing vocals, Kerri Kaysen on bass guitar and backing vocals and Ace Carlton on drums and backing vocals. Following another successful year which included headline tours of Spain and the UK as well as appearing at notable festivals such as Rebellion and Call of The Wild, Continental Lovers will be returning to the studio in January 2026 with more European dates to follow.
