British rock band Fischer-Z formed 50 years ago, and they’re celebrating the milestone anniversary with a world tour. The celebrations include their first trip to Australia in their storied career, bringing hits and energy to our shores.
Making their Australian debut in November and December, founder John Watts exclaimed of the 50th anniversary tour, “I can’t believe it’s already been 50 years. It’s been a hell of a journey, full of ups and downs, but I can’t wait to celebrate with everyone, and I’m up for it! Here’s to many more years of new music, shows and art.”
The tour begins at Perth’s Rosemount Hotel on Wednesday, 25 November. It continues at Fremantle’s Freo.Social on Thursday, 26 November, Adelaide’s The Gov on Friday, 27 November, Melbourne’s Max Watts on Saturday, 28 November, Sydney’s Factory Theatre on Thursday, 3 December, Penrith’s Evan Theatre Panthers on Friday, 4 December, Tweed Heads’ Twin Towns Services Club on Saturday, 5 December, and concludes at Brisbane’s The Triffid on Sunday, 6 December.
Pre-sale tickets to the whirlwind fortnight-long tour will be available on Wednesday, 4 February, at 9 am local time – register here for access – followed by the general sale on Friday, 6 February, at 9 am local time. You can find more ticketing information on the Fischer-Z website.
While Fischer-Z will tour Australia for the first time this year, that doesn’t mean they’ve never had success in the country.

Their breakthrough hit, So Long, from 1980, peaked at #15 on the pre-ARIA Kent Music Report. Later single, The Perfect Day, released in 1987, peaked at #12 on the ARIA Singles Chart, giving the band a strong foothold with Australian audiences. Australia remains one of the band’s most successful markets on streaming services.
Watts formed Fischer-Z with synth player Steve Skolnik in 1976. They earned a recording deal with United Artists in 1978, sharing a roster with The Stranglers and Buzzcocks.
Throughout their five-decade career, the post-punk outfit have released 23 albums and sold over two million records. They’ve collaborated with the likes of Peter Gabriel, Steve Cropper and the brass section of Dexy’s Midnight Runners, plus shared the stage with James Brown, The Police and Dire Straits, to name a few.
To mark their 50th anniversary, Fischer-Z will tour Australia and have tour dates booked in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Spain, Portugal, and the UK. The celebrations continue with a celebratory album called 50/50, featuring five brand-new songs and five re-imagined hits from across the group’s career.
