In this fantastic short sharp shock of a song Kate Couriel deconstructs everything. It’s a thrilling slice of high adrenaline action that jerks and jumps around with a perfect vocal that delivers the pithy and laced with acidic humour lyrics. A fantastically timely song that somehow nails the dark side of the now. The partner of the equally brilliant lyricist and songwriter Seb Lowe, Kate is one half of the power couple of the now and further proof that music is as urgent vital and catching the moment as it ever was and the pair of them in their convergent careers are delivering pithy perfection that you can dance to.
Kate is out on tour with Seb in April – it’s a killer line up and the real young sound of the now putting poetry into motion and ideas into action.
Kate Couriel is a Manchester-based electric violinist, best known for her central role in the Seb Lowe band. With roots in classical music, Kate developed high-level technique, fit for the Hallé Youth Orchestra – in which she played as the youngest musician at the time. After completing her training, Kate began to explore the electric violin as a way to challenge the conventional boundaries of the instrument and delve into a wide range of musical genres.
In working on the K’s charting debut album as lead violinist, Kate brought baroque-style flourishes to their indie rock sound. With the Seb Lowe band, Kate takes inspiration from classical, folk, theatre, punk & rock music to enhance Seb’s powerful lyricism, developing a “sound like no other”. She has been described to ‘”invigorate the songs through the drama her strings bring to rock music”.
This unique style has not gone unnoticed. With over 35,000 followers on TikTok and Instagram, Kate has cultivated a significant presence on social media. She shares both covers and original music, as well as behind-the-scenes glimpses of life in the band. Kate’s talent has caught the attention of Pink Floyd, who she worked alongside to promote the 50th anniversary of “The Dark Side of the Moon”, and her content continues to build connections with fans from all over the world.
As a part of the Seb Lowe band, Kate has played a crucial role in multiple sold out headline tours with over 10,000 tickets sold. Together they have supported the likes of Paul Weller, Richard Ashcroft, Blossoms and many more British indie/rock legends. In 2024, the band have announced yet another headline tour, and are set to play major festivals such as Glastonbury, as well as a main stage slot at Reading & Leeds Festival.
A Plea From Louder Than War
Louder Than War is run by a small but dedicated independent team, and we rely on the small amount of money we generate to keep the site running smoothly. Any money we do get is not lining the pockets of oligarchs or mad-cap billionaires dictating what our journalists are allowed to think and write, or hungry shareholders. We are not driven by profit, just pure enthusiasm for a scene that each and every one of us is passionate about.
