The Eagles continue to soar as ‘Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975’ becomes the first album to be certified quadruple platinum, with 40 million units sold.

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has announced that the Eagles’ Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975 became the first album in RIAA history to be certified quadruple platinum, marking 40 million units sold since the album’s release in 1976. The greatest hits set contains lots of songs by the band’s original lineup and remains the RIAA’s biggest album in the country.

In 1976, the record spent five weeks at #1 on the Billboard 200 and an impressive 514 weeks overall on the all-genre albums chart. The album includes hits from the band’s original lineup—Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Bernie Leadon, Randy Meisner, and Don Felder—like “Take It Easy” (1972), “Desperado” (1973), “Best of My Love” (1974), and “Take It to the Limit” (1975), all from their first four records.

Notably, another Eagles album, 1976’s Hotel California, has been upgraded to 28-times platinum. That makes it the RIAA’s third-biggest album in history by U.S. sales and streams with 28 million units moved. Upon its release, the record spent eight weeks at the top of the Billboard 200, and includes the Hot 100 #1 hit title track. Michael Jackson’s Thriller still holds the spot as the RIAA’s second-biggest album at 34-times platinum.

Meanwhile, the current iteration of the Eagles—Henley, Glenn’s son Deacon Frey, Joe Walsh, Timothy B. Schmit, and Vince Gill—resume their Sphere residency this Friday for 12 more nights in Las Vegas. These dates will extend their record as the artist with the most dates played at the venue, with 56 total shows. That puts them well past the previous record holder for the most Sphere performances previously held by Dead & Company.

Once that wraps, the Eagles head to the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, making their debut at the event as a Weekend 2 headliner. The festival runs from April 23 to May 3.
