Harry Hill has performed a song inspired by Self Esteem, which is about assembling flatpack furniture. Watch the video below.

The large-collared comedy star caught up with the Sheffield singer and actor during a new instalment of his online series, The Harry Hill Show, which launched at the start of the year.

The full episode is set to air on Monday (March 23), and ahead of that, he has shared a preview of the interview with the singer (real name Rebecca Lucy Taylor), in which he unveils a track that he wrote in a style similar to hers.

“My songs ultimately are saying ‘Come on then. Come on, carry on’,” Taylor said at the beginning of the clip, to which Hill responded that he had “written a song which is in the style of that”, and thought of the lyrics when debating “what information I would like to pass onto them”.

The song, he shared, was titled ‘Instructions For Assembling Flatpack Furniture’, and the lyrics are exactly what you’d expect.

Always start by reading the instruction manual thoroughly, before beginning assembly/ Identify each panel and hardware piece before you start assembling/ Pay close attention to the orientation of each panel – pre-drilled holes are often a good indication of this,” Hill recited, as a hip-hop-influenced beat played behind him.

Most of all, get an allen key, you’ll need that for sure/ Organise all parts before starting/ Check the parts against what is included in the box/ Lay out all the components and match them with the diagrams in the manual,” he added, before ending: “If anything is missing, contact the manufacturer before starting assembly/ If all that fails, ask your dad/ Just ask your dad.”

Throughout, Taylor was seen looking a combination of surprised, confused and moved by the song, and when it ended, she quipped: “Am I going mad? But that was genuinely beautiful.”

“I’ve just realised, it’s a piece of piss doing songs like that,” she joked, adding that it “gave me a good idea” for some more music.

She also said that there was a similar feel in the song to that of her song ‘69’ from latest album ‘A Complicated Woman’: “I like doing instruction songs or list songs. On my new album there is a list of sex positions and whether I like them or not…”

You can tune in to the full episode of The Harry Hill Show featuring Self Esteem on Monday March 23.

Hill rose to fame as a stand-up before his classic BBC Two and Channel 4 series, along with Harry Hill’s TV Burp, You’ve Been Framed and playing host on Junior Bake Off. He launched his new show online in January, with the first guests being fellow comedians Stewart Lee and Nish Kumar.

Last month, the invited Irish singer-songwriter CMAT onto the show and revealed that he was “such a big fan” of her latest album ‘Euro-Country’ having discovered her via her acclaimed Glastonbury 2025 performance.

Ahead of the interview with her, he even went as far as recording a tribute to her in Dublin by impersonating her on Instagram – something that the singer would later describe as both “disrespectful” but also “the most important thing to have ever happened to me in my life”.

CMAT went on to perform in a hamster suit during the episode of Hill’s show, and then last week had the comedian join her on stage during her Alexandra Palace show in London. The latter saw the TV Burp star dressed as a dartboard and danced during ‘Have Fun’, while darts were thrown at his board.

The appearances of CMAT and Self Esteem on his new show come as Harry Hill is a well-known as a big fan of indie – having previously joined Yard Act’s at their 2023 residency at Leeds’ Brudenell Social Club, and surprising Black Midi fans by joining the art-rock band on stage in London.

Speaking to NME about his taste in music back in 2023, Hill said that he was a self-confessed “6 Music dad”, and added: “I really like The Lemon Twigs [and] the truth is, I’m a massive Beatles fan. I also love Talking Heads, David Byrne and The Smiths. Yard Act have a bit of that. Unfortunately Morrissey has fallen out of favour.”

Episodes of The Harry Hill Show will be released every Monday and available to stream visually from Spotify and YouTube. Guests lined-up include Ed Gamble, James Acaster, Laura Smyth, Phil Wang, Alex Brooker, and more.

In other Harry Hill news, the comic revealed recently that he was once so exhausted from making TV Burp – which ran between 2001 and 2012 – that he became convinced someone was trying to assassinate him.

As for Self Esteem, it was revealed yesterday (Thursday March 18) that she will be the first artist set to perform at the new 3,800 capacity British Airways ARC arena in London.

The slot will follow on from her releasing her third studio album ‘A Complicated Woman’ last year, an ambitious record that she later brought to life via a theatrical stage show in London’s West End.

Since then, she has taken on the lead role in a revival of David Hare’s 1975 play Teeth ‘n’ Smiles, and opened up about her recent pivot to acting – explaining that she has been “rock-bottom depressed because of music”.
