Rob49 brought the energy back home once again for his annual Vulture Island Experience on Saturday, June 13, 2026, taking over the Smoothie King Center in his hometown of New Orleans.
Named after one of his biggest songs and his debut album, the Vulture Island Experience has quickly become “New Orleans’ biggest hip-hop event,” a one-night celebration of music, culture and community. This year’s edition featured appearances from some of hip-hop’s biggest names, including Sexyy Red, YKNiece, Bunna B, G Herbo, YFN Lucci, Cash Cobain, Bay Swag, Loe Shimmy and a handful of surprise guests.
The show itself had a unique format: Rather than go through traditional set changes from one hitmaker to the next, Rob49 remained the centerpiece artist throughout the night, performing his own records before bringing out collaborators to join him onstage. Guests would then perform one of their own hits before seamlessly transitioning back into Rob’s set, creating one long, interconnected performance that kept the energy high from start to finish.
The event also served as a preview of what’s next for the New Orleans rapper. Rob49 is gearing up to release his new album, Life of the Party, this summer, a project filled with records designed to dominate clubs, parties and playlists everywhere. His mission is simple: no matter the city or the function, the night shouldn’t end without hearing at least a little bit of Rob49.
As the lights dimmed and the doors closed on another successful Vulture Island Experience, five moments stood above the rest. Billboard breaks down the night’s biggest highlights below.

The Future of Female Rap

Image Credit: Latisha Marie Atlanta rappers YKNiece and Bunna B have taken the hip-hop world by storm with their audacious anthems, quickly emerging as two of the most exciting female rappers of the last year.
Summer 2025 belonged to Bunna B. What fans dubbed a “Bunna Summa” saw her music become the soundtrack to parties, social media feeds, and women’s nights out across the country. Meanwhile, YKNiece broke the internet with “WHIM WHAMIEE,” turning the record into a cultural phenomenon that transcended streaming numbers and became a rallying cry for a new generation of fans.
When YKNiece performed the song last night, the reaction was impossible to ignore. The crowd erupted, with the women in attendance especially screaming every lyric back word for word.
The next generation of women in rap was on full display thanks to Rob49 and they were unapologetic, energetic and Southern to its core. If the last year proved anything, it’s that YKNiece and Bunna B aren’t simply having viral moments, they’re helping define where rap is headed next.

Pretty Brown

Image Credit: Latisha Marie As soon as YFN Lucci’s “On My Mind” started playing, the entire vibe in the venue instantly shifted. The R&B-infused track changed the mood on a dime, trading a bit of chaos for a moment of emotion. It was nice to see a night that celebrated hip-hop also have some R&B mixed in there as well. Some cellphone lights illuminated the crowd, and the track quickly became one of the night’s biggest singalong moments. The majority of the crowd was singing every word, proving that “On My Mind” remains one of Lucci’s most timeless records.

Vultures Went Sexyy

Image Credit: Latisha Marie Sexyy Red pulled up and delivered another high-energy set after performing at Summer Smash in Chicago the night before, and as soon as she hit the stage, the mood instantly shifted. This set was for the ladies, and she had them all the way turnt up from the jump. Fans could be seen dancing, rapping along, feeding off Sexyy Red’s “I don’t care” energy. The excitement reached another level when “Looking for the Hoes (Ain’t My Fault)” dropped, as screams erupted and women throughout the crowd could be seen vibing and dancing without a care in the world.

The New King of the City?

Image Credit: Latisha Marie Rob49 continues to put on for his hometown, using his success to create the kinds of musical experiences that many in the city didn’t have much of before. He’s doing much more than releasing music, he’s helping build moments and opportunities for his people, bringing major performances and attention back to the city of New Orleans. As his profile continues to rise, so does his impact on the local culture, making the conversation around him bigger than music alone.

A Proud Father

Image Credit: Latisha Marie Watching Big Rob in the crowd during Rob49’s performance was a moment in itself. He wasn’t rapping along or dancing, he was simply standing there with a smile on his face, watching his son command the stage. You could see the pride in his eyes.
Sometimes the most powerful moments are the ones most people don’t see. Seeing a father quietly admire what his son has become, and what he built, while knowing the journey and sacrifices it took to get there — it was all a reminder that success is shared by the people who believed in you long before the spotlight.
