Massive Attack signed with Play It Again Sam, part of the [PIAS] Label Group. The partnership kicked off on Thursday (April 16) with the release of the band’s new single, “Boots on the Ground” featuring Tom Waits, accompanied by an original film directed by the band in collaboration with photo artist thefinaleye. The song is the first release from the trip-hop pioneers since their 2020 EP, Eutopia.
“We’re honoured to welcome Massive Attack to Play It Again Sam,” said Kenny Gates, executive chairman of [PIAS], in a statement on the deal. “They are a band I’ve admired for decades, not just for their groundbreaking music but for their uncompromising creativity and cultural impact. To be working with them is genuinely exciting for all of us at [PIAS], and this partnership feels like the start of a very exciting journey.”
Russell Crank, director of A&R at Play It Again Sam, added, “In a time like this, standing behind the vital voice of Massive Attack is a privilege. We’re fully committed to Rob, Grant and the important art they continue to make, and the remarkable work they’re about to share this year.”
“This track is arriving in an atmosphere of chaos,” said Massive Attack in its own statement. “Across the western hemisphere, state authoritarianism and the militarisation of police forces are fusing again with neo-fascist politics. Seen within the American emergency, at home and overseas, this track contains pulses of callous impulse & abandoned mind.” — Chris Eggertsen

Tiffany Day (broke records)

Image Credit: Mac. B Photography Hyper-pop artist Tiffany Day signed to broke records, which released her sophomore album, HALO, on April 3. Day has racked up more than 115 million streams globally, according to a press release.
“The day we met Tiffany we felt like there was a strong connection where we could truly support her vision as an artist,” said Andre Benz, CEO and co-founder of broke records, in a statement. “Watching her grow and blossom into the star that she is has been nothing but outstanding to witness and we’re eager to propel her into capturing the global audience that she deserves.”
“Tiffany is one of those artists where you just get out of the way and let it happen,” added Avi Chez-Shaw, A&R at broke records. “You can see and hear the intention in everything she does. That kind of thoughtfulness is exactly how I knew our role was to build around her, and not to interfere. HALO is just the beginning of what she’s capable of, and we’re thrilled to be part of her journey.”
Day added, “I’m so thankful for broke. I’ve been indie for 8 years and was terrified of signing and giving away my say in anything. Broke feels like an extension of my existing team. One of the biggest reasons I signed is truly the vibe of the people. That means everything to me, more than funding or numbers or promises. Everything I’m building…they just let me dream. I’ve never felt more safe and supported working with them, and I feel like HALO is exactly what it was meant to be because of it. I am really excited for the next project with broke.” — Chris Eggertsen

2819 Worship (Reach Records)
Reach Records, founded by artist Lecrae and home to artists including Hulvey, Tedashii, Trip Lee and Anike, has signed Atlanta’s 2819 Worship, from 2819 Church, led by pastor Philip Anthony Mitchell.
Lecrae said in a statement, “The gospel has always been at the center of Reach Records’ vision. While our roots are in hip-hop, our mission has always been to create space for the full expression of faith music, message, and movement. I’ve personally been impacted by Pastor Philip’s teaching and inspired by what God is doing through this community. As we’ve spent time together, it’s become clear that there’s a genuine alignment that makes this feel less like a partnership and more like a shared calling. We’re excited to help carry the sound, the message, and the culture of this house to new audiences.”
Lonnell Williams, executive pastor of 2819 Church and COO of 2819 Worship said, “2819 Worship was built on one conviction: Christ above everything. Every song. Every collaboration. Every decision — filtered through that single standard. So when we looked at Reach Records, we weren’t evaluating a label. We were evaluating alignment. And what we found was an organization that has spent nearly two decades putting the Gospel at the center of their work, their artists, and their culture. This partnership is the fruit of obedience. God opened this door. We walked through it. And we don’t take lightly what it means to be the first worship team ever signed to a predominantly Christian hip-hop label. That’s not a milestone we chased. That’s a door God opened — and it comes with responsibility. Because firsts don’t just make history. Firsts set the standard for everyone who comes after. We believe this is a moment for CCM. Not just hip-hop. Not just worship. Vertical worship that is solely unto Christ — in the fullest sense of the word. Diverse in sound. Rich in expression. Uncompromising in message. The name of Christ deserves every genre, every room, and every generation. We intend to build in all of them. Reach Records understands assignments. So do we. That’s why we’re here — and that’s why we’re just getting started. Ultimately, 2819 is a house of ‘Prayer, Presence, and Proclamation’ —we are so ready for the rest of the world to step into that presence we experience every Sunday gathering!” — Jessica Nicholson
