Chappell Roan has said she cried after getting her own Fortnite skin, and has also announced a limited-edition merch line to celebrate the long-awaited collab.

Last year, Roan asked Epic Games to make her a playable character in online multiplayer battle royale game Fortnite during an interview with the BBC. “Please give me a skin. Please,” she said. “If I want to have a really good night, I’ll just eat an edible and play video games.”

Earlier this month, her wish came true when she became the latest headline act of Fortnite Festival, with a number of Chappell Roan skins, emotes and jam tracks added to the game. “When Chappell Roan asks for her own Fortnite outfit, we give her her own Fortnite outfit,” wrote Epic Games on X.

The collaboration is set to run until March 6 and to celebrate, Roan has announced two limited-edition t-shirts which are available to buy here.

In an email to fans, Chappell Roan wrote: “I do not cry a lot and me having a Fortnite skin had me in tears. It just looks so awesome.”

Fortnite players can currently get a trio of Roan outfits. Two are inspired by her onstage outfits while the third Roan Of Arc look is based on her performance of ‘Good Luck, Babe’ at the 2024 VMAs.

To promote the collaboration, Epic Games shared an epic trailer that uses various animation techniques including stop-motion. The “anti-AI” video was praised on social media. “It’s hard to believe that Fortnite of all things would continue to be a bastion of human created art,” wrote one fan. “It’s so refreshing to get to see real, hand-crafted art in media like this,” added another.

Earlier this month, Roan revealed she’s a huge fan of the soundtrack to online multiplayer game RuneScape while interviewing Hemlocke Springs.

Following Roan’s inclusion in Fortnite, fellow pop star Madison Beer has also asked Epic Games for her own in-game skin. “Let’s get serious. Stop changing things that we love about Fortnite. Keep it original and give me a skin, please!”

In other news, the team behind Marvel’s Wolverine has confirmed the release date for the long-awaited superhero game – and it’s coming sooner than many fans were expecting.
