Get the gin and juice ready, because a Snoop Dogg biopic is on the way. While appearing at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Wednesday (April 15), Snoop revealed production for the biopic is set for this summer, and the film will hit movie theaters across the U.S. in 2027.
“I wish I could give you more details. We’ll be back at CinemaCon next year with a trailer,” Snoop told the audience, according to Deadline.
Outer Banks star Jonathan Daviss is slated to play a young Snoop Dogg (born Calvin Broadus Jr.) looking to find his way in the rap game. Hustle & Flow‘s Craig Brewer is on board as the biopic’s director, while Brian Grazer, who produced Eminem’s 8 Mile, will serve as a producer alongside Snoop.
Per USA Today, Snoop Dogg revealed his biopic, which is titled Snoop, will be rated R. “After my brothers told their story in Straight Outta Compton, it’s my turn,” the West Coast legend said of the 2015 N.W.A. biopic, which also features a portrayal of him in the film by LaKeith Stanfield.
“[Brewer] just showed us how hard it is out here for a pimp from Hustle & Flow. And then last year, he got us all singing ‘Sweet Caroline,’” Snoop added of Song Sung Blue, which Brewer directed in 2025.
With Snoop’s Death Row Pictures in partnership with NBCUniversal, the rap icon playfully claimed he has a trailer next to legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg. “I got a trailer on the lot right next to Spielberg,” he quipped, according to USA Today. “They called the fire department on me two times already, but it wasn’t fire. Smoke, baby!”
Rap dignitaries such as 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., Eminem, N.W.A. and 50 Cent have all had movies made at least loosely about their life stories, and now it’s Snoop’s turn. Snoop Dogg has lived about 10 lives as a rapper and is still dropping albums more than 30 years since his classic 1993 Doggystyle debut LP, and Snoop’s 10 Til Midnight project arrived on April 10. Even outside of music, he’s been completing improbable side missions such as appearing on The Voice and contributing to NBC’s Olympics coverage.
Snoop has 45 Billboard Hot 100 entries to date, including No. 1 hits such as “Drop It Like It’s Hot,” as well as guesting on Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” and Akon’s “I Wanna Love You.”
